The digital landscape has continued to evolve quickly than ever, and we’ve seen the implementation of AI in our everyday lives through social media, work life, and day-to-day use. We’re also seeing many dangerous effects from it regarding facial recognition and images.
Many probably remember the early online trend of AI baby visuals, and what seemed to be a harmless trend has now evolved into territory that can turn alarming quickly. With ChatGPT, GenAI, and OpenAI at the forefront, what’s happening with the everyday use of AI is starting to impact the physical and digital ecosystem.
The new layer of AI taking over the timeline is the recent trend of AI vlogging content. From mukbangs to "day in the life" vlogs, we’re observing a rise in human AI images, but the most surprising aspect is that many of these avatars are Black women.

The timeline raises concerns after several AI videos featuring images of Black girls vlogging and speaking, including one who seems to be participating in a fried chicken mukbang while eating a whole drumstick.
When casually encountering this content in the timeline, many unsettling elements arise, particularly the realistic imagery that becomes difficult for the average consumer with ongoing exposure to decipher whether it’s real or not. From lashes and accents to nails and beyond, the visuals of AI Black girls are increasingly disturbing.
In an era of misinformation, low media literacy and short attention spans, these images serve as an entryway into dangerous territory. The evolution of digital blackface has become increasingly slick and sneaky, meaning this new trend of AI Black girls can lead to harmful content spreading on social media and affect the minds of those online.
As we've seen throughout the past year, AI is a tool that can quickly be used in a harmful manner if not used responsibly. Not only does AI have negative environmental and job market impacts, but social manipulation is at an all-time high.
According to a 2024 report from the University of Florida, AI tools make it easy for anyone to create fake images and news that are hard to distinguish from accurate information. From elections to wars, those with ill intentions can mass-produce and disseminate propaganda on social media.
The unfortunate push that’s happening right now is that no one knows what’s real and what’s not, leading to a plethora of false information and destructive visuals.

Like you said, digital blackface is going to be so covert and make it hard for the general public to distinguish from these images. Hopefully limitations will be placed, but if not it needs to be ai indicator courses or something
